Planning the perfect proposal can be challenging, especially if your partner has high expectations. You might be thinking of going abroad for your engagement to add a little extra sparkle.

You could visit some of the most romantic destinations in the world and pop the question there. Or, your partner might prefer something a little more low-key, like a proposal on the sofa at home.

The proposal is all about your lifestyle and relationship together. Engagement ring specialist, F Hinds, found that getting engaged abroad is the top choice for those in a relationship, and nearly a quarter chose it as their perfect proposal scenario.

Almost a third of Brits would prefer to get engaged at an iconic landmark on a stunning holiday away.

If you’re looking to propose, here are the most romantic places to pop the question in the world.

Venice, Italy

Venice is one of the most romantic places in the world, and for a good reason. It’s filled with narrow canals and Venetian Gothic architecture. You could propose alongside the canal and celebrate with authentic Italian pizza and wine.

Or, you could take the proposal a step further and go on a gondola ride. After you have popped the question on the gondola, you can head to the Michelin star Venetian restaurant. Sounds dreamy, right?

Paris, France

Nothing says romance like Paris and the Eiffel Tower. Wake your partner up before dawn and propose next to the Eiffel Tower just as the sun is rising.

Make sure to set up your camera to catch a breath-taking photo of the event. Or, if your partner is far from a morning person, you could head out for dinner next to the Eiffel Tower and propose amid the evening lights. Just don’t take any pictures of the light show at night, it’s illegal!

New York, America

It doesn’t get much better than a proposal at the top of the Empire State Building in New York. You can watch the city hustle and bustle beneath your feet while gazing at your new fiancé.

You could head to Bow Bridge in Central Park to propose in one of the most iconic movie locations of all time. It would be even more magical in the autumn time when the leaves are falling around you.

If a city skyline is the backdrop you envisage for the perfect proposal, take a chartered yacht and sail along the Hudson, taking in the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty.

Santorini, Greece

Santorini is known for its popularity with honeymooners and celebrities alike. With its iconic whitewashed buildings dotted around the island, it provides endless views across the brilliant blue ocean.

Rent a private oceanfront villa with your own pool and luxury bedroom, the perfect place to relax and enjoy your engagement moon.

With deep orange sunsets that span across the horizon, sunset is a magical time of the day to pop the question; not only will it be picture perfect, but you can also sit down to an evening meal to celebrate your engagement long into the evening.

Geirangerfjord, Norway

If you and your partner are adventurous and love exploring the great outdoors, what could be more spectacular than a proposal in the great Geirangerfjord? A UNESCO-protected site, Geirangerfjord is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, lush green vegetation, and majestic waterfalls.

Take a walk to a viewpoint and pop the question with a beautiful backdrop; it will also provide excellent photo opportunities to celebrate the engagement.

There are many romantic proposal destinations around the world, consider the destination that would suit both you and your partner equally.
